The Mother’s First visit to Pondicherry. The Mother came to Pondicherry on March 29, 1914, and met Sri Aurobindo for the first time. After their meeting, Sri Aurobindo has said that he had never seen anywhere a self-surrender so absolute and unreserved as that of the Mother. Later, Sri Aurobindo also mentioned about the significance of the presence of the Mother on earth in the following words: "Mother has taken the body because a work of a physical nature (i.e. including a change in the physical world) had to be done. … Some have come with her to share in the work, others she has called, others have come seeking for the light. With each she has a personal relation or the possibility of a personal relation; but each is of its own kind." —Sri Aurobindo The day was also the beginning of what has now grown into the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and a worldwide spiritual movement.
